Re: BRAG: College Gameday is coming to Williams v Amherst
You are wrong.
This game is not being televised by any of the ESPN stations. It's just the preview and recap show. Maybe NESN or FSN or some regional channel televises this game already...no idea. But it's definitely not on ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2792610 Sat., Nov. 10 Michigan at Wisconsin Noon ESPN Sat., Nov. 10 Wake Forest at Clemson Noon ESPN2 Sat., Nov. 10 Indiana at Northwestern Noon ESPN Classic Sat., Nov. 10 Penn State at Temple Noon ESPNU Sat., Nov. 10 Florida State at Virginia Tech 3:30 p.m. ABC (and reverse mirror on ESPN) Sat., Nov. 10 Illinois at Ohio State 3:30 p.m. ABC (and reverse mirror on ESPN) Sat., Nov. 10 Texas Tech at Texas 3:30 p.m. ABC Sat., Nov. 10 Arizona State at UCLA 3:30 p.m. ABC Sat., Nov. 10 Connecticut at Cincinnati 3:30 p.m. ESPNU Sat., Nov. 10 Virginia at Miami 7:15 p.m. ESPN2 Sat., Nov. 10 Florida at South Carolina 7:45 p.m. ESPN Sat., Nov. 10 Boston College at Maryland 8 p.m. ABC Sat., Nov. 10 Kansas at Oklahoma State 8 p.m. ABC Sat., Nov. 10 USC at Cal 8 p.m. ABC Sat., Nov. 10 Western Carolina at Appalachian State 8 p.m. (same day broadcast) ESPNU Sat., Nov. 10 Fresno State at Hawaii 11 p.m. ESPN2 |

It's definitely being televised by somebody, but NESN is probably right. EDIT: I think it's cool enough they're filming Gameday there.

It's definitely cool for them that they get college gameday to showcase their happy rivalry and tradition, etc etc.
But some are acting like the game itself is going to be on national TV. |

Re: BRAG: College Gameday is coming to Williams v Amherst
I have no interest in this game nor in this rivalry. Until this thread I knew pretty much nothing about it.
I think it's a nice thing that ESPN is showcasing a couple of the little schools and perhaps using that to talk more about small-college football in general. But this isn't exactly the end-all-be-all. When I was looking it up I landed on some forum I think for Williams college talking about it and half the thread was talking about how the womens soccer is playing at 1 that same day just a couple fields over or something and maybe they will get some publicity also. Yeah, because ESPN GameDay goes out of their way to show womens soccer highlights. |

Re: BRAG: College Gameday is coming to Williams v Amherst
Well, I guess I can agree with that too.
1 - So the guys who are going to likely end up going pro somehow don't love playing the game? If I was on a top 10 nationally ranked team there's a decent chance I would love the game and the 100k crowds a WHOLE FREAKING BUNCH. 2 - I'm already familiar with teams where a whole bunch of the players don't have the slightest chance of going pro for the most part. Tonight Central Michigan plays Western Michigan out of the Mid-American conference for example. 3 - I'm a soccer player and I love to play my game also. Wasn't good enough to play collegiately although I guess if I had looked for a program small enough perhaps I could have had a chance. I'm 37 now. I have been playing and coaching a couple of different rec-league teams for the past couple of years and truly love the game and intend on continuing to play as long as my body will let me. Sports are kind of fun in general even if they can be kind of grueling. The guys on LSU generally love to play the game and if they take an injury and get knocked out for a few weeks they think it sucks to be on the sideline. The guys on Williams are kind of the same. So yeah...that kind of rhetoric gets a little silly after awhile because it kind of implies that bigger-program players generally hate to play the game which I don't think is correct. |
