I think you will have a hard time convincing them of voting for Ron Paul if you've already tried and failed. Ron Paul is too extreme for most people, which is also his biggest concern for the election.

May I ask who they currently are thinking of voting for?

Did your mom ever vote for Ronald Reagan? RP is much more similar to Reagan than any other candidate. He is the only one with actual specific plans to shrink the size of the federal govt.

The DHS has nothing to do with protecting us from terrorists. What was so bad about our military and intelligence services that they couldn't protect us before? The purpose of DHS is to increase executive power, and create more buerocracy.

RP is the only candidate that wants to withdraw from the UN. The UN is a socialist organization that seeks power over every country in order to eventually create a world govt. RP strongly opposes anything that would override US sovereignty. That includes the WTO, NAFTA and the North American Union.

I think this is the argument I would use to convince them of RPs foreign policy: Our military is diluted all around the world. Meanwhile, the borders are wide open for terrorists to wander in. Every time we decide to be the police force of another country, we decrease our ability to police our own country.

RP has always voted against amnesty and any kind of welfare or subsidies for illegal immigrants. He wants to repeal the automatic birthright citizenship.

RP has never voted to spend any money out of the social security budget. He wants people to be able to opt out of ss and not have to pay ss taxes.

RP has been a strong opponent of the Real ID act, which attempted to create a national ID card.

RP wants to protect private property rghts. He opposes any kind of eminent domain.

RP opposes affirmative action, he voted to end aa for college admissions in 1997.

1. Why should we vote for someone who can't win.

[/ QUOTE ]

God I hate this logic it doesn't make any sence. Why bother having primaries or debates or anything else, since it seems like people know who can win before the candidates have done anything this whole process is a useless waste of money. It's so [censored] stupid, in my mind, to not vote for a guy who you think has good ideas solely for the fact that you don't think he can win. HOW THE [censored] DO YOU THINK ANY CANDIDATE WINS!!! /rant

Anyway, ask them if they like the direction the country has been heading for the past few years. If they are dissatisfied tell them voting for any one of the frontrunners is a vote to continue the current status quo.

I think your best bet for #2 is to keep asking them why we were attacked. If they want to play a cat and mouse game with these morons, they will always be able to get one thing through and there is no way to stop it. The only way to WIN the war is to change hearts and minds (or at least let them direct their hatred elsewhere).

Try making a TV out of cardboard and sticking it over your head when you speak to them.

or

Try to get them to watch a Ron Paul DVD( ronpauldvd.com). Ron Paul speaks very well for himself. If they watch the DVD and still don't get it. Move on. Don't waste your time arguing with people who don't get the message. Just keep getting the message out there.

Homer: America, take a good look at your beloved candidates. They're
nothing but hideous space reptiles. [unmasks them]
[audience gasps in terror]
Kodos: It's true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about
it? It's a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.
[murmurs]
Man1: He's right, this is a two-party system.
Man2: Well, I believe I'll vote for a third-party candidate.
Kang: Go ahead, throw your vote away.
[Kang and Kodos laugh out loud]

Seriously. I have never heard a good rebuttal to this argument - maybe one of the resident neocons could try.

The suggestion always seems to be that there's one cohesive group that we just just throw our military at and they'll deal with it - the "we'd rather fight them over there than over here" argument. The fallacy being that "they" can be dealt with in one place. Not to mention the fact that we're generating historic levels of hatred around the world for what we're doing - gee, that must be pacifying the terrorists. I hide the american side of my half english / half american accent when I go back to england now.

Government is incompetent at everything they do, and defense is no different.

Bad tactic imo. No sane person believes this. You just come across as unreasonable and dogmatic.

The point of this thread was to help OP convince his parents. He didn't even care if the stuff was true or not, and was just looking for a way to say stuff to them. Pay attention to the OP if you're determined to respond here.

As AlexM said, plenty of "sane" people do believe that centralized planning is inherently inefficient. There's nothing dogmatic about that. That's not the point of this thread though. The point is to offer quick and dirty tips for OP. Save your lame attacks for other threads.

I don't think even ACsts believe this. There may be an otherwise sane person who does, but I've never met one.

Central planning of what? A project? A business? A household? No, we don't. An industry? An economy? Yes, we do, because yes, it is.
