99 btn raise 3bet... your std line?
I've run into this position a lot... not quite sure what the best way to play back is:
Hero is BTN with 88-TT and raises Villain who has been defending his blind 3bets Hero ??? Small 4bet? A call here seems pretty bad, as there are very few flops we'll like.

I think calling is better than 4betting or folding. Hero has position and does not necessarily have to play middle pairs for set value. I'll float a lot of cbets as long as the flop isn't outrageously broadway oriented, and then play poker on the turn.

Do you call and play for set value or just let them go? (assume 100b, villain isn't an idiot)

Call and make a decision based on flop texture. I don't know if a stop and go is a relevant play in cash games, but this could be a good time to give it a try.
The four bet is pretty brutal with this marginal a holding.

I suppose it depends on the size of the 3bet and the resulting implied odds, but I suppose I call any of them for set value and be much more willing to fold to a cbet if I don't connect. If villain doesn't go very far w/o a monster then folding to the 3bet might be better, but against standard villains you should be able to stack hands like AK and overpairs enough to make set mining these profitable.
3/8 rule means we can call up to 12BB's w/ 100BB stacks right?

[/ QUOTE ] If you do, you're almost turning your hand into a bluff PF as you will mostly fold out anything you beat and get shoved by hands that have you crushed. Against someone who you think is 3betting you light routinely, it's probably ok to do this for value and to (hopefully) shut down some of his aggression for the future.

There's a thread in the SSNL sticky that seems to conclude that rather than using 10% of your stack as a maximum you should use 8% to account for the times you will lose set over set, not be able to extract his whole stack, etc...
(The 12BB I mentioned in my previous post was implying we were calling an EIGHT BB raise after we had raised to 4BB.)
