9 handed poker table with everyone sitting around and blinders on their screens to prevent peeking, dealer could be replaced by this?

I think battleship would probably be even better for online poker because it'd be like televised online poker.

Altho maybe it just wouldn't look that good on TV...

My post was almost like three lines longer so I could debate with myself about exactly that. I think the novelty factor would outweigh the nine people staring at a computer factor.

But I wonder if it could be shown on U.S. TV.

An important factor in TV Poker is the second when the flop, turn and river is flipped. I believe this can be solved with a big screen where everybody see the table, and the players are forced to look on the big screen. This can be solved by delaying the community cards on their laptops. By doing this the people watching TV will watch the flop, turn and river while looking at the players. To see a PokerStars table when the dealer is dealing the community cards would not make good TV imo.

imo finishing it live would be soo much better. television viewers would be like "oh, these people made the final table from online? and two of these guys only invested like sixty bucks? wow! i gotta try out this online poker thing"

[/ QUOTE ]

this has already been done, no?

I'm involved in promotions at PokerStars and I'm intrigued by the almost unanimously positive response to this idea. Other sites have done similar events, but to my knowledge PokerStars, so far, have not.

Personally, I'm not convinced it's right for the WCOOP. Whether you'd do it with cards and a dealer or battleship-style, it is still live, and as pointed out earlier WCOOP is an online poker series. In addition, it would be logistically much harder to do than you might think.

Having said that, there's no reason why we can't do something in this format for another tournament/promotion. Of course it very much depends on the demand for it.

If you would like to see an event of this nature that is not associated with the WCOOP, please make your feelings known in this thread. If the responses continue to be positive I'll pitch something to the powers-that-be.

Bob
