Taking a "Cold" Proficiency Test (Psych 100)

Hey all,

I recently transferred schools and I am somewhat behind in my gen ed requirements. Proficiency tests are offered for some subjcts, Psych 100 is one of them.

Any guesses as to what my chance of passing is if I have 1 week to study? I've been looking at the MIT opencourse website, it seems to have some good info.

The test is 200 multiple choice q's, must get 140 (70%) right to pass.

If anyone has multiple choice tests they find through google or from their old courses, I will ship you some $$ on stars for them.

Have you considered purchasing an AP Psych review book from like Baron's or Princeton Review? You can rip through those pretty fast and they have tests in the back.

I looked at cliffsnotes, not spark though.

Im really looking for multiple choice practice tests cause thats the most similar format to the real test.

I took one cold and got a 65% over 20 questions, so maybe this is doable?

EDIT: My roommate has the course textbook, I will likely read important parts of it.

It definitely is doable, but with a 200 question test its gonna be harder to Cold it. The AP book will have practice tests.

This is completely doable. I got an A in Psych 101 by reading the chapters and studying the bold terms.

Ehh that came out wrong. I went to lecture twice (out of like 60) and probably spent 3 hours studying for each of the 3 exams.

if i'm not mistaken, you go to uiuc?

I'm taking psyc100 for the behavioral science requirement. On the syllabus, it says if you get a 5 on the AP test, you can get credit for the class. So if you want to test out of it, you should probably just get one of those AP prep books. You should be golden if you score 4 or 5 on the practice tests.

Eh, it's doable but by no means easy. My psych class required a ton of memorization that you had to apply to get questions right, meaning that questions saying something like "What is X?" were very few and far between. This is probably because my teacher was pretty cruel and liked to make intro classes really hard to weed out all the kids who were borderline on doing a psych major. Don't expect to be doing a whole lot else the week you are studying.

This is totally standard. Intro-level psychology courses are often amongst the easiest at a given university.
