Neteller options for American in Europe

I am an American living in Germany. I have just now gotten the documentation Neteller wants to switch my account over to a German one.

If I request a withdrawal back to my American bank before I have my account switched, it will save me NT's exorbitant vig converting dollars to Euros (which is what my German account uses).

It's under $10k, so doesn't run afowl of the laws pertaining to foreign accounts over that amount. There is, obviously, already a papertrail tying that account to my bank.

Are there any downsides to getting the money sent back to the States by NT? Is the DoJ gonna come down on all us sinners with the mighty wrath of Goodness & Purity?
