Default couple dumb questions

I don't really expect anyone to know any of these things, but some of you may have a decent idea so here goes:

1. Can the essay you write to schools when applying be rated highly in relation to other things?

2. Do schools check things like ratemyprof or other means to see how easy the classes were that people took?

No school would ever use ratemyprofessor that way.

yea i figured #2 would be no, hence the "dumb question"

As for #1, basically im hoping some C's I had from screwing around a while back dont completely screw me, so I was hoping the essay can mean a lot.

Essay really doesn't mean anything when compared to your grades. Back when Michigan used a points scale for admission (100 would get you in), a 4.0 was worth like 80 points, 3.9 was a 78 I think and so on down. A well-written essay? 1 point.

Thanks to the numbers-driven US News rankings, schools can usually care less about your essay. If it comes down to two similar candidates and only one slot available, then they'll look at what you wrote.

So basically those early C's will screw me unless I take a lot of extra time to weigh them out? It's kinda odd that D's and F's can get retaken to replace but C's need some kind of special permission.

You might want to mention what you are applying for when you post these questions.

For an undergrad application, I would assume GPA is heavily wayyy more than an essay in most situations.
