Going to the gym when sick
What is your policy with this? I've been feeling [censored] since last friday and skipped 2 workouts so far. It may be allergies but I have a general overall fatigue and I cant breathe well; I'm getting anxious trying to wait it out.

Re: Going to the gym when sick
IMO it's good to take periodic breaks every 2-3 months for 4-5 days.
These things will end up coming naturally for me in the form of sickness, trips, etc. I wouldn't worry about it too much. When I was running a lot, I think I prolonged a couple illnesses because of refusal to stop running. |

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, however I do watch a lot of Scrubs so take this for what it's worth. I would think you want to use your energy to get better instead of working out so sleep more until your feeling better.

Most important point...
[ QUOTE ] not only should you do it for yourself, but out of respect for everyone else at the gym as well. germs spread fast there. [/ QUOTE ] Also while your sick you significantly increase your chance of injury...and then your really gona miss working out. Just chill out, take your vitamins, and eat healthier. |

Re: Going to the gym when sick
Umm.... Physical activity increases your recovery. Not like killing yourself, but going in and doing a low intensity/low volume workout would probably be a good idea if you don't have a horrid chest cold or something.

[/ QUOTE ] Your right, but I think all that stuff he can do at home. In fact, I don't think he needs to do any weights for what you described. Do sretching, pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc. Also, OP stated he has trouble breathing...im sure he knows how important proper breathing is during any workout. |

Re: Going to the gym when sick
Some light cardio might actually be beneficial for you. Maybe some warmup weight lifting and a 20 minute elliptical program.
