delgado for HOF??

He's always been fairly consistent through his career and while I've been a big fan of his, I don't think he has enough to make it...can i ask what u guys think of his credentials and what the standard seems to be for HOF 1Bs??

His contract goes for another 2 years, so even with that, can he make it?? Or am I way off here for even thinking he has a shot?? Discuss...

I'm not a stats guy, but my first guess is that he would not be a serious candidate unless he gets to 500 home runs.

I imagine he'll get some votes, but I doubt he'd get in without something big happening over the rest of his career. He played too long in Toronto and came just in time to miss their championship runs, plus he's a 1B in a very prolific offensive time period. 1B like Frank Thomas, McGwire, Palmeiro are all ahead of him.

Then again, he's "only" 34 and potentially has a number of years left.

He doesn't deserve it but if he can get 500hr's he will probably get in.

Thats from baseball-reference.com. Thats with his stats this year. He has two years left on his contract like you said. A couple of 35+ homeruns years could really do alot for him. 500 of course is the target number. I think if he had won the MVP award in 2003, and I think he deserved it over A-Rod, it could possibly be a whole different discussion.

All in all, the last few years of his career will determine it, if he stays healthy and continues to belt homeruns, he's in on my ballot. It's a sin though, he's an amazing leader and he does alot of small things that are just not seen by the fan.

A-Rod had a better year in 2003 because he played SS.
If he won it would have a much better shot at geting in the HOF.

He's not. If you're going to start putting mid 90s+ 1b/DH's into the hall, you're going to let in a lot of pretty avg (for their position) players.

BR's HOF standards aren't adjusted for the era that the player played in. If Delgado put up his numbers is the 1940s, he'd be a shoe-in. As it is, he needs to do more.

btw, I think that pretty soon 500 HRs will not be an automatic HOF entry.
