Fine so far, now call a bet.

Overs with a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] are big enough part of his range and he will always try to rep the Ace if he has nothing.

Do you call the raise on the river if you bet out???
You certainly don't want to put two bets in on this river so c/c is best.

Betting the river would be horrible.

I don't think betting the river is horrible. Against villains who can read hands c/c turns our hand faceup and gets us valuetowned every time he has it because we can't fold. They won't bluff very often because our check screams c/c. Against a lot of people i like a bet to induce a desperation bluff from missed overcards/flushdraws without the ace. An ATS 40 OTB range has a lot of these.
Given the board and our river bet thinking players might even just call with a mediocre ace because we could have them reverse dominated or flushed.
Of course this is more generally speaking, against a 50/9 guy i c/c too.

1. I'd much rather be value-towned for 1BB than for 2BB.

2. It is much more likely that a villain will try to bet as a bluff than to raise as a bluff because betting as a bluff offers him a much better price than raising does (6:1 vs 7:2).

3. An ace is raising the river almost always.

1. Obviously, thats the major drawback of my idea.

2. that depends, of course he gets a better price but a raise is more credible than a bet. This argument doesn't make that much sense anyway because he doesn't have a choice between betting and raising.

3. I wouldn't raise A9 here vs a solid tag.

The whole thing is obviously read-depending and a question of levelthinking. Against an unknown or a donkey i happily c/c and lose a bet. I only wanted to say that betting here is not per se horrible. Against some people c/c could be at least as bad. b/c, b/f, c/c and c/f could all be viable options here.

In tougher higher games you can't always check this river, they will play perfectly. Here you can obv. and call the bet.

Yes IF they will also play perfectly if you bet but they won't! They still call too much so even against guys that know when you check they shouldn't bluff with KQ they will quickly call with that KQ cuz their logic is "wow the ace didn't faze him he must have a monster or nothing" which is a pretty decent way to play against most guys.
