Well, a semi-public message sent out by one of the clubs today begins: "Due to greed in the poker community the [NAME OF CLUB] became the target of continuous raids."

Anyone care to explain the meaning of that sentence? Are we being told that the principals of certain establishments are using the police as a weapon against other establishments?

The club scene is pretty dead in NY because the constant raids prevent larger, better places from taking hold for casual players. I constantly get invites to new clubs, but haven't played in one for years ... As a recreational player, I want a friendly, reliable, safe place to play with multiple games and lots of players

It's been more recent than that for me, but what I saw not long ago didn't get me super excited to jump in more regularly. Home games, online and the the once a month or so trip to a casino/cardroom it is.

And not that it matters what I think, but there's no reason to go into details. TT's right.

Very scummy, and very true. This has been happening for years. It might not be cool for me to say this, if I am wrong I appologize in advance.

As a side note, I dont know a single owner/operator that wants poker to be legalized in NY State - its bad for business. DUCY?

it's pretty clear why a small underground owner wouldn't want poker to be legalized. all the underground owners would be muscled out by big corporations if cardrooms became legal.

The Horse's Mouth just called - here are the details.

Wednesday one room was visited, not raided, to deliver a State served eviction notice. The police were there as protection, and to padlock the room when they left. Nobody was arrested. One person who was assumed arrested was actually held behind as the last man standing while the police did their job.

The other room had a walk through last night. The jig is up, its no secret.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sad day. Glad I went tuesday.

Guess who was there on Wednesday!
