i really don't like this.

What hands is BB gonna 4-bet over a button and SB raise with?

Almost always, this is QQ+/AK. You're toast here.

i would hope the intent of this bet is to make him fold therefore the only part that his calling range plays in this is that if he has a tight calling range then this will work more of the time the four betting range is more important becuz it has to be light enough to fold the vast majority of the time becuz when called this hand is most likely a 4-1 dog....this play is super player dependant and hard to critique based on us having missed the flow of the game and the way the villian is playing....in general id say this is a great way to give a nit a courtesy double up or put a sick beat on him however if you and the button have been up to this business often and u think the bb may just be making a play and thats ur instinct u may be right but the play in general is just bad but if ur gut told u this was a good spot and it worked then nh

I think this is awful, I love it when people do this to me and I have ak and say "hell ya beooootch", oh yeah and it actually holds up. Hate this line for sure.

thanks for the responses, villain tanked and said AK in the chat before folding. Afterward I looked back at the hand from villains prospective and knew there was no way I would fold AK, although I got lucky in the fact that he was a much tighter player and did not want to race for a stack, possibly scared money not trying to gambol. Although I had a heavy feeling he wouldnt call with AK, I could easily have been very wrong as most people do look me up here in an instant.

trying to make people fold AK isnt the time to 5-bet shove AQ. the time to 5-bet shove AQ is when you know their 4-bet range is light enough that AQ is probably a dominating winner against their range.

[/ QUOTE ]

if you mean vs their calling range, then it is almost never, no ?

[/ QUOTE ]

If I have AQ, I'd much rather win the hand without a flop if somebody 4-bets me and I know theyre quite light. I don't have any pairs, and chances are I wont have any pairs after the flop either. No easy buckets.

Oh, and sometimes they call with worse because they think theyre priced in. Thats always nice.
