Default Re: New technology in Poker tables: -EV or +EV?

Maybe +EV in the strictly cash sense. No dealer tokes, plus maybe more fish - people who aren't comfortable sitting at a regular table, but who will play video poker or something similar might be more comfortable sitting at one of these. Maybe. You could also pick up on some physical tells that you would not get at home on the computer.

Most people aren't pros, though. We play because we love to play poker, and in that sense, whether the game is +EV or not is a personal choice. I don't like the idea of this as much as playing with cards and chips. It's probably -EV for me when the "Value" is something other than cash.

Its like going to the strip club and getting a virtual lap dance. The real thing is much better.

How do you keep people from walking by and looking at your cards? Screen blinders?

I guess it might be cool for a little while just for the novelty of it. I would definitely give it a try.

You cup your hand around your cards on the screen and they fold up.

I suppose I'll chime in after lurking for quite a while. I've played at these tables at the Hard Rock in Tampa many many times and I have to say it's much more fun than online poker, and a little less fun than regular dealer poker. Also you don't have to tip, don't forget $$$$

And to acknowledge the type of players there... Hard Rock basically only uses it for $45 buy in and what's great about that (since it's their smallest buy in for any tournaments AND don't forget, the tables basically don't allow you to mess up. So people staying the night at the hotel, or whatever who don't normally play poker but saw it on tv or whatever get this great opportunity to play no limit holdem tourney with real people, and no chance of looking stupid. Translation is, you get a LOT of people who really have NO idea what they're doing. The other downside is, the other really good players know this too, so you usually get tables of half total fish, and half... sharks? I don't consider myself the best poker player by any means, but I've made more money at these tables than I've lost.
