more than motivation this sounds like chasing looses and protecting wins.

Nobody likes a loosing day and when your ahead your afraid that it will turn around and you will just quit.

The same applies when your stuck. You don't want that loosing feeling for the rest of the day hence you just keep playing till it goes away ( rostucko )
