I get tired of people pretending poker is a gentleman's game. Tired of people talking about so called morals at a poker table. Everyone at the table is either ruthless and calculating, or trying their best to be ruthless and calculating. It's dog eat dog. I wanna take the last of your mortgage payments. I want your children to not eat properly this week.

[/ QUOTE ]

If your opponents can't make their mortgage payments and feed their kids, how on earth do you expect them to keep coming back and donating to your game in the future?

q/q

[/ QUOTE ]

Who cares. They aren't much of cash cow if they can't afford to donate another time.

You're calling here 99.9999999999999% of the time anyway, why bother with "Hollywooding" it? Just STFU and play cards dude.

not a tournament, and never moved from my seat. reading comprehension, ftw. i asked first, dealer says it's allowed, i had both players covered, with no one left to act behind me so i'm not influencing anyone else's decision. i'm thinking it's totally fine, and wouldn't bother me in the slightest if someone else at the table does the same thing. i gave the button the opportunity to let me know how he felt about my hand, and he did. i really don't think it's even remotely close to an angle shot, or poor etiquette, and was suprised by the dealer thinking it was. just posted to see if i was in the minority or not.

[/ QUOTE ]

the only problem i have with it --- was that flipping your
cards over seemed to imply a call . . . . or a fold !?!

I thought that showing your cards meant your hand was dead
UNLESS it was at showdown ?

From Robert's rules:

The following actions are improper, and grounds for warning, suspending, or barring a violator:

Revealing the contents of a live hand in a multihanded pot before the betting is complete.

that guy's an idiot because he should never fold a set of queens in this situation. unless the guy rolls over top set you are always calling and showing him QQ isn't going to get him to roll top set over.

to be honest i didn't realize that it would still be profitable to call here even against a flopped straight. had i known that there would've been no reason to show before calling. it wasn't a hollywood. i'm all for keeping up the speed of the game, esp live since it's hard enough to get a decent number of hands in per hour with rebuys, dealer changes, etc. i haven't been playing forever, so thanks to the poster who pointed out the odds. thanks to everyone who has replied to my post, carry on.

Default Dealer = Idiot

The dealer is an idiot on two levels....
1. He works for tips.
2. You did nothing wrong.

It is not like you slowed rolled someone at the river....

I kind of resent casino's trying to reign in aggressive players who are playing within the rules.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats fine, but it is against the rules in my room for you to use profane language, berate other players. agree players shouldn't be penalized for minor infractions of general ettiquette (though for the life of me I don't understand why so many people can't say please and thank you to the cocktail waitress). But the idea that anything goes at the poker table is not acceptable. The idea that we can't regulate condict in order to make the room a better place for all players (not just the ones who aren't offended by profanity) makes no sense to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand that and I thought I was clear in my post that aggressive means being an aggressive player - check raising, being willing to push on other players, everything within the casino rules and NO angleshooting. Politeness is expected and assumed and not a part of this topic, although it would make for a great thread.

He was heads up. His casino had a rule that allowed him to show his cards. He asked if he could so his oppenent should have known what he was doing. Ergo, not bad etiquette.
