Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
The worst is Fox I believe. Last year, Zumaya was pitching consistently at 102 during the playoffs. It's like they add on mph so they can show it with the different fire-like background (95+) to make people excited.
Oh well, I'm still not giving up on my fantasy of Hughes pitching at 97. |

[ QUOTE ] Agreed. Anyone want to throw out some comparisons to Hughes in terms of stuff/demeanor/physical build? First name that comes to mind for me is a young Mike Mussina (with some extra size). Low 90's with great control, nasty hook...his mound presence is also very comparable in my opinion. [/ QUOTE ] clemens seriously. [/ QUOTE ] I don't see it, at least not stuff-wise. Clemens threw harder, splitter vs. curve, etc. I was also going to say Clemens is bigger, but baseball-reference.com says Hughes is actually an inch taller (6-5 vs. 6-4). Is that true? I never would have guessed Hughes was so big. |

I just looked at tomorrow's pitching match-ups and we have to F-in face Guthrie again. I think I'd rather face any other pitcher in the AL but Guthrie, except maybe Johan. Honestly, we just can't hit this guy. Yes, I'd rather face Becket than Guthrie.

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Going back to the Igawa/Meredith talk... I don't know why no one brought this up before, but I just realized that anyone the Yankees get back in a trade for Igawa would also have to clear wavers, right? So there's no way they're getting anyone useful for him right now. Seems like it would be best to let him put up good numbers at Triple-A the rest of the year (12 IP, 14 K and 1 BB in his last two starts) and reevaluate in the offseason.

[/ QUOTE ] Scary commentary on Hughes injury risk from some random dude who showed up on the Rotoworld forum. Since you don't hear this other places, I'm hoping it's just some guy spouting off/overreaching. http://forums.rotoworld.com/index.php?showtopic=21343 |

Any truth to this analysis? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, there is. One expert said the first thing he thought of when he saw Hughes was "shoulder injury". On-and-off injuries are something Hughes will probably have to deal with most of his career, but most scouts never expect him to have serious problems. I'd like to remind (or inform) everyone that when Clemens first came up they said the same stuff about him. "He'll never make it, the way he pitches... he'll get injured!" Yeah, right. " The "not so good." While at first it looks like he firms up the front side pretty well, I slowed it down and saw that it seems like he opens up a little too early. I think he pulls his front shoulder out of the way, which leads to.....Let me explain, as soon as I saw that, I said "shoulder injury" in my head. I knew nothing about Hughes injury troubles, but after I saw that, I Googled "Phil Hughes shoulder injury," and well there ya go. I think I would worry about his durability. Unless he gets that front shoulder under control, I think shoulder injuries will haunt him throughout his career." from: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...philip-hughes/ |
