Read that he "taught himself" a changeup. Some good minor league numbers ya got there. Now show me something. In the majors the prediction and projection is over and done with, and it's time to produce. Which is what he'll have to do considering he's already getting a late start.

Did you also hear him say Hughes was being clocked at 96-97 last start? I know not to trust the radar guns on YES or any other station for that matter, but that sounds a little high. On the other hand, I don't think Gammons would just throw random numbers out.

He's wrong. Hughes never got above 94 MPH on the YES gun his last start, as far as I know.

He DOES possess a 95+ fastball but he will not use it, as he lacks control with it.

First name that comes to mind for me is a young Mike Mussina (with some extra size). Low 90's with great control, nasty hook...his mound presence is also very comparable in my opinion.

MLB.com's Gamecast also showed him at 93-94 for the whole game. The 96-97 probably comes from a typical juiced stadium scoreboard gun.

Gamecast had Joba at 98-99 with almost every fastball.
