Luck?
I recently played in a charity poker tournament with most players having played little or no NL hold em. There were 3,000 in starting chips, 25 - 25 starting blinds with 15 minute levels. Blinds went to 25-50, 50-100, 100 - 200, 400-800, 500 - 1,000, 1,000 - 2,000. There were about 50 players.
My son and I discussed the format and he declared it was 100% luck. Most players would call down with most anything and I felt there was some skill to hand selction. The final table consisted of several players who were not even fully aware of what hands beat what hands. What percentage of luck would you estimate was involved in a tournament with a structure like this? |
