Can anyone explain it fully to me?

Many Thanks

I guess it would be something like AK suited v 22 in an all in situation, pre-flop. 22 is the favourite going in but the chances of AK improving to win are just under 50% and so it's referred to as a toss up, a coin toss.

It's not actually a coin toss - the pocket pair is favourite. But you can see the difference between something like AK [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] v 22 and AK [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] v AQ off.

This will be my nit post of the day and on top of it I could be wrong. I don't have any poker software and didn't look this up but I think a red AK suited is a slight favourite over two black deuces.

basically anything from about 60-40 would be considered a toss up hand.

Fascinating stuff. So AK suited RED is a tiny favourite v any black pair. To my shame, I did not know that.

If you are of a mind, what's the story if your man is holding 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] v AK [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]?

That one is better for 22:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 50.298% 49.96% 00.33% 855521 5727.00 { 2d2s }
Hand 1: 49.702% 49.37% 00.33% 845329 5727.00 { AdKd }

The worst for AK (other than AA or KK) is this:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 42.724% 42.57% 00.16% 728909 2661.00 { AcKd }
Hand 1: 57.276% 57.12% 00.16% 978073 2661.00 { ThTs }

The thing to remember about AK is that it is crushed by AA, a pretty big dog to KK, is a "toss up" against 22-QQ, it crushes AQ and lower and is around a 2:1 favourite against other unpaired undercards.

So all this means that AK is a good hand to come over the top all-in with. It likes to see all five cards and there are only two hands it is in trouble against.

people always like to mention the AK vs pocket pair, one situation that amuses me is small pair versus middle suited overcards.

22 vs T7s
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 47.856% 46.96% 00.89% 19299876 366882.00 { 22 }
Hand 1: 52.144% 51.25% 00.89% 21061656 366882.00 { T7s }

22 vs AKs
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 50.107% 49.78% 00.32% 20458116 133374.00 { 22 }
Hand 1: 49.893% 49.57% 00.32% 20370432 133374.00 { AKs }

(these are considering all suit possibilities)
