Default 200 - 300 down swing

HI, I've been running bad for the last couple of months losing approx. 300 BB's playing LH. Is this too much, or can a lot of winning players hit patches like this?

300BB downswing is not impossible for a winning player even in limit, but you should definitely review your game and see if there are leaks. Games and people change and it's possible that you were once a winner, but can no longer beat the game you're playing.

it's much, but nothing is impossible of course (just less likely). it's always hard to talk about probabilties afterwards, but I'd say there's at least a bigger chance that the reason for your downswing is some leaks than you are a big longrun winner in the game. the only advice i can give is to move down a level or two and try to regain some confidence, then you can try to move up again after a 300 upswing. i know it sucks, but wouldn't that be a real test for your strength as a poker player?

I have probably had around ten 200+BB downswings with my winrate being something like 1.5BB/100 overall but this covers many different limits and both fullring and shorthanded.

It can't hurt to begin with the assumption that your doing something wrong. That's my assumption whenever I'm running bad. Review the stats and your hand histories, compare the stats to those presented by experienced posters, and find something to improve. Even if its pure variance, a soul-search isn't a bad thing. I do it whenever I hit 150 down. Take the evening off and study.
