Default Tell me about Seattle

I may be relocating to Seattle for a job opportunity. I've never been to the Pacific Northwest so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm originally from the Chicago area so I've been through plenty of icy winters, but I've been in Texas for almost 20 years now so I'm probably a wuss for anything remotely cold.

So whats it like? What is there to do? What is the culture like? I don't mean just poker related. I like fishing, outdoors stuff, beaches, camping etc. so I guess the area should be pretty good right?

thanks for any info.

regards,
Tim

[/ QUOTE ] This question is silly. You can do the same stuff here you can do in just about any city. (punch an albino, build a catapult, sell your body for money, eat malaysian food)

[/ QUOTE ] Id say that seattle is a little polite and reserved.

it rains more often in Seattle, but the total amount of rain isn't that much. Seattle is a cool place to live, a little expensive, a tad too crowded. But still nice.

It's a remote outpost just down the highway from Vancouver.

I've spent barely any time in Seattle, but I did have a pretty sweet experience there. I was flying out for a wedding, but I got there a day early to crash with a high school buddy of mine. I'd flown in from the East Coast and we met up at about 11 pm Pacific, then proceeded to go out drinking and get utterly retarded until 4 am. Since his roommate was the bartender and the bar was closed, this was all completely free. I then passed out on his couch, and woke up five hours later. I rolled over to find the front door to his house open, and from the couch I could see a beautiful, cloudless day, with Mt. Rainier smack in the middle of the door. That was just about the coolest I've ever felt while that hungover.

Summers are perfect (from about May through early Oct.with temps from upper 60's to high 80's and very humid), winters suck; not cold, really(low to mid 40's, day and night, mostly, from late Oct. through March), just very, very, VERY wet, like it rains anywhere from 25-75 inches per year. very green, lots of water, obviously, to do fun things on and in; lots of different cultures here to learn from; great food, world-class restaurants in Seattle and relatively near-by Portland, OR.; as for the poker, it's ok, but no no-limit. some places do spread limit, but that's pretty much restricted to Tulalip casino, which is about 30 mins north of Seattle, and Muckleshoot casino, which is 30 mins or so south; I like it here a lot, but I would prefer a winter home in Tucson...

Seattle is ok, just stay out of locations such as: Central District, White Center, and Capital Hill..

The downtown area, IMO, is very nice, one of the nicest downtowns in the country.. you have Nikey Town, Pike Place Market,Deja Vu, and lots of good places to eat.

The worst part of Seattle is the traffic. for a metro area that's not huge, the traffic at peak times is unbearable..

I've only been once, I spent Thanksgiving there. I actually spent most of my time on Bainbridge where the family lived, but I enjoyed my time there a lot. Absolutely gorgeous scenery (both natural and city skyline), my type of weather, and I second Locust.. it's one of the better downtowns I've tooled around in. I considered moving there for a while.

Fiasco,

I thought you were Al. What gives?
