I believe I remember Randy R. or Rick N. saying it's not the case in CA. But the rule in any club or casino I've ever played in NYC or AC is any player at the table, whether they were in the hand or not, can ask to see a players hand at showdown in a called hand.

Many times the bettor says "Nice call" and mucks his hand and some nit at the table asks to see the winning calling hand before it's mucked. Bottom line is the rule is abused to the point where the players should be told no.

Last table I was at at Commerce in LA there was one guy who asked to see every hand whether he was in it or not, and the dealer turned it over. I wasn't that guy.
