Default acne medication

ive had acne since i was a young teen. with treatment of acne products its very much under control but if i stop using acne medications even for a short period of time my face starts breaking out.

what are the best acne products that youve used? i tried to research acne products over google through review sites but unfortunately most sites reviewing acne products are trying to sell them and therefore i dont find them reliable.

for me personally, facial scrubs dont do anything. toners work ok but my face mostly needs lotion. i post this thread because the products below do help but i need to go through several bottles a month in order to keep my acne under control but there are usually still blemishes on my face even through regular use. are there any better/cheaper products i should try out?

the products ive had the most success with are:

proactiv repairing lotion - $40 for 3 bottles (you can call them and ask for repairing lotion only)
zapzyt lotion - $4 a bottle

Look for this soap at any Eckerds/CVS/etc.

PanOxyl

Make sure you buy the 10% bar, and you should be good.

i just did some research on this product. ive never heard of it before. wow that stuff looks powerful. my case of acne isnt bad though, its just really annoying to get blemishes and such. i definitely dont want to risk all the side effects that come with it just to clear up a few zits.

Yes, Accutane is for severe acne only (like what I had.) It does work extremely well, but the side effects are scary to say the least.

I had really bad acne in high school, and tried proactiv, retin-a, tetracycline, benzoyl peroxide, etc., plus various OTC meds, but nothing helped. Accutane was the only thing that worked, and it cleared me up for good. However, it's only for extreme cases, as it's like napalm for your face. Also there's been some controversy over it, as it can apparently cause depression, and some people have killed themselves after taking it.

So if it's a big enough problem for you, I'd recommend looking into accutane. However, it's expensive, and it takes a 6 month regimen, during which time you'll be extremely sensitive to sunlight and your skin will redden. Also, you'll have to have regular checkups to take blood.
