Default Using a PS3 with a headphone (5.1 if possible). Does it work?

Hi guys!

I'm considering buying a PS3. I have a 720p flat screen monitor which I could use with a HDMI->DVI-cable, I suppose (do games support 720p by now)? Problem is that I don't have a sound system that has a digital optical in. And I am currently not too fond of the idea buying one. Actually I'm used to playing with headsets/headphones anyway. So I am wondering if I can use the PS3 with a USB headphone, especially one of those 5.1 emulator ones (like the medusa mobile usb headset ).

So, do these work? Is that feasible? Is there a good headphone/headset that you can recommend? I looked at bluetooth headsets too, but they all seem to come with one speaker only, so one ear has no sound. Do they only transfer voice chat?

I go PS3 -> HDMI -> TV -> Surround, or you could just use the TV sound. I don't see a necessity to use the optical out (as I don't have a surrond w/ that imput either). Regarding the headphones I'm not really sure, so I would try a cheapo pair of USB headphones (if there is such a thing) to test if it would work. Sorry I can't be more help
