[/ QUOTE ] this is so wrong, the way to get paid off by akxx or worse is to bet the river. And he didn't check call the flop. OP - this spot is so awkward because it is such a bad spot for him to have slowplayed A9. If your oppponent is a thinking player I think you be able to call, it is unlikely he is on a level where he can think "I never turn up with A9 here so I shouldn't bluff". However there are enough opponents out there who will think "lol I flopped the nuts, I slowplay u, I so tricky" and you can fold against those guys, they never wake up with less on the river. If the river was say a T you have a very clear fold after this action.
