Default 99 in BB vs. PFR and a board that gets scarier and scarier...

Playing $1/$2 FR

I'm in BB and am dealt 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. HJ is 20/14/2.14

MP1 open-limps. HJ raises. Folded to me in BB, and I call.

Flop: J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check. MP1 checks. HJ bets. I raise. MP1 bails. HJ calls.

Turn: J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet. HJ calls.

River: J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check and fold to his bet.

Feedback on all streets welcome.

Is this FR? What limit? HJ range here with those stats im guessing would be 77+, A8+, A5s+, KT+. Preflop call is ok. 3bet would be closer if he opened from the CO or button. Flop c/r i like, Q on the turn isnt the best card for you, but i think you need to lead again after c/raising the flop. River is an easy fold.

FR, yes $1/$2

I just edited my original post to include that. I don't know why I always forget to put that in...

Full ring? Anything on MP1? Do you have any reason to think that HJ might be raising light?

Preflop and the flop are ok, tho if you think HJ is raising light a 3-bang preflop and bet out on the flop is more appropriate. (Just judging from this hand, MP1 looks pretty nitty, HJ probably knows this and is iso-raising but probably not light enough to make your equity great; better to get MP1 out pf, and let HJ off the hook on the flop.)

As played, c/f the turn. You're either behind or he's got somewhere between 10 and 15 outs. He's not folding and you don't want to pay at least 2 more bets to showdown.

(fwiw, your check-fold on the river is pretty bad.)

I'm very interested in this because it seems like these hands cost me a lot of money. I *like* the checkraise but then I've isolated myself OOP with second pair and only 2 outs if I'm trailing. I start to hate putting in money on the flop.

The same applies with JJ or TT and a queen on the flop. There my hand is a tad better but it may be more likely that someone was playing a queen PF, and that gets worse if it's a king or an ace in the flop.

looks ok, pretty much everything he is calling there just came in, cept TT which beats us anyway.

The only 2 hands I could think that we beat/split are 88 & 99, I don't think he's gunna bet that river with those.

why?

The turn may be closer to a c/f, but the river if def a check/fold.

BTW, I sometimes 3bet this PF, but depends on the opponents in the hand.

i'd 3bet preflop against a 20/14 who's possibly isoing.

given your play i don't mind your line at all, actually.

it's just a gross spot that happens sometimes, that you can't do a lot about.

i think c/f the turn is pretty bad, but the river c/f is okay.

What are you trying to accomplish with a bet on the turn if you're going to check-fold the river against an aggro opponent? Get value from a hand that has 10 outs to beat you (AK)?

Edit: fwiw, I agree with Babar when he says that this is mostly just a gross spot that happens sometimes and it sucks. The only question is when we get away from it. I prefer to get away from it earlier.
