Default $50 JJ Can I play this profitably?

Villain is 0/0 after a whopping 6 hands. This is only my second hand at the table. First hand there were 2 limpers I raise from bb to $3 get 2 callers, they fold to c-bet. In this hand I feel I'm probably ahead but if we get arrrr in I'm going to be behind.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

MP3 ($48.55)
CO ($73.05)
Button ($80.25)
Hero ($56.05)
BB ($25.15)
UTG ($50)
UTG+1 ($19.45)
MP1 ($49.70)
MP2 ($52.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.50, 5 folds, Button calls $0.50, Hero raises to $3, 1 fold, UTG calls $2.50, Button folds.

Flop: ($7) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $4, UTG raises to $12, Hero bitches to 2p2.

I'd play it this way too (including the bitching lol). I might raise more preflop to charge them to play IP against me...but that's about it. Readless, I fold here.

don't you usually raise/bet harder?
I think this is only a tough spot b/c he could be sensing weakness.
As played I don't think you can really call, I'd be done with it

I usually bet more. The dryness of the board made me bet less. In the hand before the flop was KQT and I bet $7 into $9.xx so he could be sensing weakness. Probably a bad bet.

I have a tough time laying this down but calling is bad imo because he is going to lead turn almost for sure. Then what? I think you have to fold flop.

are people really that terrified of sets? I think a set calls on this flop nearly every time. QQ-AA would be a gross slowplay.

the absence of a read is the only reason to muck here, but you are likely folding the best hand. I don't hate a push.

You may well be slightly ahead, but you have no way of properly checking that out other than pushing, which is a pretty spewy way to play against unknowns, so I fold.

I certainly agree that the lack of reads is your best reason not to play in this spot.

Fold, on that board it is screaming a set.

I can't believe how many people are advocating a fold here. If I had a set here, I wouldn't be raising. I think villain's raise is meant to protect his hand, not bet it for value. I vote shove.
