AC casinos are looking forward to the launch of the new direct train line from NYC this summer, I don't think they are that worried and actually expect a banner year - even with the beginning of the year decline. Mind you Q1 isn't closed yet.

I am more pessimistic. This January was the warmest January on record. I saw people walking on the boardwalk last month. They should have had an increase this January.

I don't think the train is going to bring a noticeable increase of people to AC. This all depends of course on the schedule and the availability of jitneys to shuttle people back to the train station.

There are not going to be any new casinos in the immediate future, and I don't think the new casinos are going to challenge the poker market leaders by adding large poker rooms.

The problem about that train line is that it seems to be even slower than buses. I've heard predictions of 2.5 hour travel time, which if true would actually be a step back from Greyhound. With Greyhound, you can usually hop on at the last minute in Port Authority (unless there are retarded security checks), and drive straight into casino in 2 hours 15 minutes. And getting to the train station in New York won't be quicker than getting to the Port Authority bus terminal. The new AC train line sounds like a dud to me.

I just found this article on the net: http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/...ss-train_x.htm . I'm not sure if this is about the same line, since I thought the new line would go along the coast and not through Philly. In any way, nothing in that article sounds encouraging, that train would seem like an inferior option to Greyhound in every way sans comfort.

I don't hate Greyhound because of the time it takes, but because I've found it has poor service and more often then not you get stuck into a tiny space beside a smelly fat person. If its like a normal train you'll get just enough more space to be reasonably comfortable.

I was also hoping the train would stop at Newark which would save 45-60 minutes off the trip for me. Although if the cost is going to be $40+ I can't see the train surviving since Greyhound costs around $10 after the bonus.

Now if PA legalizes poker rooms, that could be a serious hit to AC poker, but that's a ways away, they're going to see how the slots work out first (which of course makes no sense, legalizing slots before poker (well, it does from a tax revenue point of view so nevermind, oh well)).

[/ QUOTE ]

You overstate the amount of PA players in AC. You must be a PA boy. Have you been to a PA slot parlor yet ?????? They blow. You can run a 100 dollar bill through a 3 coin penny slot and not get so much as a cherry for your 3300 spin's.

So once your gangster Louis DeNaples get's the card room laws passed and your ridiculous PA taxes get thrown in your going to have a situation just like the slots.

2/4 limit 50% rake up to 40 bucks. Yup PA at it's finest.

FYI PA players were leaving AC a while back for the foxwoods and other NY state property.

Amish don't play poker.

Also.... Any new mega casino ON THE BOARDWALK will steal business from the iteish... Borgata.

How much business will they lose..... I can't say. But all the borgataites will flock to the NEW AND SHINY casino that's closer to the boardwalk. Because as the borgataites will tell you the New Mega Property on the Boardwalk has shiny new pencils for the keno lounge.

Heh be honest people all a casino has to do to take over and dominate the AC scene to to find the lowest rake in AC and cut it in half. Wait six months till you have all the business, treat the customers right and then bump the rake back to average.

Oh yeah..... one more thing........ As far as you being a nit about spelling and punctuation and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.... The point your trying to make is more important than my spell checker

This is ridiculous and pretty far from the truth - there are tons of PA players in AC every day - I'm there almost every weekend as are a lot of other people that visit this site. How often are you there? Once a year? Less? Do you even live in this area? Have you ever even been to one of the PA slot parlors? If so, when and which one? Penny slots? lol???
