Default Vegas PLO8 trip report

At the suggestion of Buzz, I submit this trip report. To be succinct:

Vegas SUCKED this weekend. It sucked long and hard.

The PLO8 tourney at Binion's Saturday had 17 participants and no cash game before or after. (Last month it had 9 or 10 tables.) The only O8 being played in town was 4/8 (standard), 5/10 at Mirage, 10/20 at Wynn, or 30/60 and 60/120 (mix) at Bellagio.

We did get an interest list of 7 at the Wynn for a 2/5 PLO mixed game, but it didn't go. I believe that it would have if even a few more players were in town.

Apparently, all of the tournaments worth playing were out of town, and there wasn't a sufficient influx of tourist players to keep the games going.

Being short of bankroll and risk-averse, I found a home at the Wynn and made the best of it, and I came home with a small profit to show. But if Vegas were like that every weekend, I wouldn't ever go to Vegas.

It was like that 2 weeks ago when I went, although the Binions tourney had about 80 entries. I didn't know about the Wynn game or I would have gone there. I got bored of the Mirage and ended up playing slots as it was more exciting than limit. There was a few 80 buck tourneys at the Orleans as well.

I slept in past 5:00(out late Friday night partying) and missed the tourney, but I went there around 6:30 to see if any cash games were running, and as you said they weren't so I left.

If anyone is ever trying to start a PLO8 cash game, I'd be willing to give you my phone number via PM and you can feel free to call me anytime to let me know....won't guarantee that I'll make it, but theres a decent change I will.

Edited to add: I'm much more likely to make it to a game at the Wynn(or anywhere on the strip) than somewhere in old Vegas simply because its a shorter drive for me and I like it better there.

Assani,

Since I'm guessing you live in Vegas, do you know if Binion's is going to continue these Omaha weekends into the new year? There's no mention of them on the website.

I asked when I was there. They said they would do it again in December, and that they were planning on trying a monthly HORSE event in January, possibly to replace the PLO and possibly on another date. So they are planning on continuing with it.

The floor told me that the PLO8 is their best event, aside from the daile NLH guarantee. They know that people come for it, and I'm pretty sure that they aren't going to give up on it.

Yeah I live here. Not certain, but I'd think that they'd continue to run them as I havn't heard otherwise. If I ever make one(I've still never played live O8 of any kind) I'll ask and let you know.

Let's get a game going Friday night at the Wynn. I'll be there this weekend and would like to meet up and start a game around 7:30-8:00 on Friday night.

Thanks for the update. I was considering coming out specifically for the December Binions tourney, but now I'm not so sure.

Still, coming from a dry state, Vegas can suck and still be okay. ( On the up side, there is now a legal casino that is only 100 minutes from my house. )

What stakes are you interested in? I doubt we'll be able to get a full table of $5/10 and I have no desire to play shorthanded against tough opponents. $2/5 uncapped ok with you? Feel free to PM me if you wanna exchange phone numbers.
