Re: D\'amato Never Folds: NY Times Article
[ QUOTE ]
Good article, however, D'Amato has little to no influence among a Democrat controlled Congress. It would have been nice, not to mention intelligent, to have him on board lobbying against the bill before they passed the damn thing. Damn bill wouldn't have gotten passed if Jack Abramhoff had still been around. Either way, decent article and a step in the right direction. [/ QUOTE ] Considering the real work needs to be done on the Republican side of the aisle, D'Amato isn't a bad choice. It is probably up to AGA/the B&M crowd to work Reid (and probably always has been). Besides, the Senate is really just a club - former Senators are just inactive club members. They get an audience regardless of which side of the building they sat on when they were active. Usually, anyway. |

As a matter of fact, back when Stern was on free radio, he used to have D'amato on as a guest and they would talk about the home poker games they would play with each other in Long Island. [/ QUOTE ] iirc stern hasn't mentioned senator al for many many years now |

Re: D\'amato Never Folds: NY Times Article
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Howard Stern is probably the last person we should want as our frontman. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, relax. D'amato is our front man. We're talking about an interview with D'amato that will reach millions. [/ QUOTE ] Umm, Hoo Hoo is not on commercial radio anymore. He's on Sirius, by far the smaller of the 2 satellite radio services. Him interviewing D'Amato these days wouldn't draw nearly as many listeners as, say, Opie and Anthony (who have both a satellite radio show on XM AND a Free FM morning show on regular radio). Most of Stern's audience did not go with him to Sirius. Not to mention Anthony Cumia is a poker fanatic who frequently mentions poker on the O&A Show, though he's been surprisingly silent on the whole UIGEA matter. Not that either one of them would be the ideal "frontman" as far as poker is concerned....like you said, D'Amato is the actual frontman and Stern has more -name recognition- than O&A, certainly, especially in Middle America. But, and this is the important point, Opie and Anthony currently have more listeners than Howie. He should try getting on with them too, as he will find them and the Pests a surprisingly sympathetic audience towards poker and the PPA. --Scott |

Re: D\'amato Never Folds: NY Times Article
Just wanted to add, because I don't yet see it on here, that Stars has a PPA freeroll. More than one, and it has 5k in each. What happens is, when you register, your information is sent to the PPA, so they can contact you about membership.
The tournaments are 10k max entrants, and I see two of them now. I don't know how many they are, but Stars is getting the PPA MANY possible new memberships. Any thoughts on this new Stars/PPA connection? Thx. |

Re: D\'amato Never Folds: NY Times Article
Howard Stern's audience is made up of millions of paying listeners........a valuable commodity unto itself.
Not to mention the countless free listeners over the web. |

Re: D\'amato Never Folds: NY Times Article
Senator,
Once the bill was attached to the Safe Port Act, there was no way in a hotly contested election year that anyone was going to vote against it and commit political suicide. Even the great wheeler/dealer/scumbag Abramhoff couldn't pull this one out. |

Believe it or not, I'm actually a political consultant in my day job so I know a lot of people on The Hill and I know a lot about this stuff. I don't think you realize how much power and influence Abramhoff had. |
