Default $114: Overcall with A9?

Both players are relative unknowns. Sb seems bad...maybe weak-tight. Get it in?

PokerStars Tournament, Big Blind is t400 with t25 antes (5 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com

UTG (t2180)
CO (t2405)
Button (t5585)
SB (t1020)
Hero (t2310)

Preflop: Hero is in BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

If the SB is weak-tight, don't you have to put him on a pretty good hand to shove here? Given you're already in for 400, I don't think a call can be too bad. Not sure about the shove. Probably depends on if you think the button can fold here.

i d rather call than get it in here i think, i would be very surprised to see button folding to a push and you probably have to have him dominated if you want him to call you here. also if you dont hit sb is likely to get the money if you pushed button out of the hand.

I'm calling. The SB almost "doesn't count" since he's so short and we'd clearly call the button push. Also, the SB could just be giving up here.

If this were the bubble I'd call. But five handed I like a shove.

i like a shove as well. just beat the button and you maintain 2400 chips. win this hand and have 5700 which will look really nice. i guess stop n go is ok as well, but i probably just get them in before i do something stupid.

I never understood the advantages of sng'ing in a situation like this. He'll probably call the flop if he is ahead of us and fold if he's behind, so specifically we'll be losing on hands when he would've called preflop but can now get away on the flop (like missed KQ). I guess he could conceivably have something like 44 and flop KQJ or something, but the sng seems to benefit him (and hurt us) more than it helps us. Please let me know if I'm missing something.
