In my area, this was a staple as kids at 7-11 with a slurpee cup and various items throughout the store. Get the biggest slurpee cup, fill it with loot, and then fill up the rest of the cup with slurpee. Pay for slurpee, have free candy.

This is on a much smaller scale but I was still impressed by it.
My trashy broke brother-in-law finally got his 2 year old potty-trained and I made a comment about him saving money now because he wouldn't have to buy diapers.
He informed me that he hadn't paid for diapers the whole time. He leaves them in the bottom of the cart and then acts busy with the kid but never pulls the diapers up to be scanned and paid for.
He then told me about one time he thought he was caught because the manager was running after him as he was exiting the store. But the manager just started bitching about the cashiers because they were supposed to put a sticker on stuff on the bottom of the cart to show it was paid for. LOL The manager didn't even ask to see his receipt.
But my trashy brother-in-law said it was a perfect crime because if he ever was caught he could just play dumb and say that he forgot to pull the diapers off the bottom of the cart.

If hes gonna steal why not just slip [censored] into his coat and stuff?

MANY years ago, as a kid, working at Best Buy... I came into work to find one of the long time employees being areested for theft.
HIS scam...
He would take a new $29 cassette deck ( which were huge then) from the backroom stock, carefully open it up from the bottom and remove the contents( and place it in the returned items pile, or just toss it in a dumpster. He would then load the box with high value items re-seal the box and place it on the sales floor.
His confederate would appear as a customer, approaoch this salesman, and after a short time be "sold" a cheap tape deck. Confederate would then take the box through the register, pay the 29 bucks and exit with hundreds of dollars worth of SLR's, radar detectors and such.
They estimated they were pulling this 3 times a week for almost 6 months.

A lot of stores sell those $100 Visa prepaid gift cards. Stores usually don't try very hard to prevent people from stealing them, because the card is no good until it is activated by the clerk at the checkout line.

You can steal some of those from the store, then post an ad on Craigslist saying "short on cash, will sell $100 Visa prepaid card for $90 cash. Card is still in original packaging as proof it has not been tampered with/already spent."

Profit.

In high school I was busted for shoplifting at a grocery store and was chatting it up with the dude who busted me for awhile. He was telling me stories about all the crazy stuff he see's, the best one, which I never had the balls to pull off was:

customer goes into the grocery store, typically an early to mid twenties woman...often which a child or two, and goes about her shopping. fills up the cart with all manner of deliscious food and beverages. and then...pushes it straight out the front door. calm and collected goes right to the car and puts all of the groceries inside and drives away.

seems like it has a pretty good chance of working at a large high trafficked grocery store, obviously with the right kind of entry/exit setup.

My mom absent mindedly did this when I was a kid, she just walked right out. when she got to the car she was like wtf, nothing is in bags. then she went back in and paid for everything, no one said a word.

This happened to a friend of mine and I can't believe it worked on him. It's a difficult scam. It involses good acting and sleight of hand.

So basically this foreign guy comes to his cashier at a hardware store and asks him if he can change some smaller bills for a 50€ bill. My friend, working the cashier, pulls out a 50€ bill from the cashier and makes the change.

The foreign guy then says, that he is not from here and that he collects bills and needs one that starts with some specific number (that probably doesn't even exist). So he asks the clerk to check if there is any of these bills.
The clerks starts searching for it and the guy then says it would be quicker if he could look himself.

The Clerk takes the 50€-bills out of the register and keeps holding them in his hand, showing them to the guy. He takes one hand and scrolls through the bills until he finally finds one at the end, says thank you and leaves.

After his shift my friend had 500€ missing from the register. The guy must have pulled them out, without him noticing, with one hand while scrolling through them.

When I was in highschool me and my mates had an amazing scam going for a while.

We would go to the shop and buy a raffle book for £1 or so, the go round doors selling raffle tickets for a £1 a pop but most people bought a couple.

So we went round to peoples houses wearing the football strips which we used to play our sunday 5-asides in, and would say that the raffle was in support for the schools football team, and was to help to pay for there annual trip to play in a school football tourney in Holland. We said that the winner of the raffle wins £250 gift voucher for tesco and that the winner would be announced in the Cumbernauld news on wednesday. I would say nearly every door we went to bought one, because everyone always seems supportive to local sports teams.

All in all it was a brilliant plan which netted the three of us £300+ each over the course of a fortnight, goodtimes.

And also I ran a mini porn empire. At the petrol station up form my house I probably stole easily 100+ pornos from during highschool. Because along the backwall of the store it goes Cash register, Magazines, toilet. So i would go to the toilet and pretend to close the door, then reach my hand out and grap a porno or two from the topshelf and stick them down my top, flush toilet, wash hands then but a coke or something then leave. Sell the crappy pornos to folk at school heep good ones. profit.
