Default Betting the river OOP to fold a worse hand.

This is a situation that I'm having trouble with. I'll end up on the river with a hand that has marginal showdown value (mostly A/K-high, occasionally small pairs and very occasionally stuff like Q-high), and I think could go either way slightly in terms of EV if I check/call and the villain were to bet every time.

When I have the lead, I don't bet blank rivers very often UI and I'm running into situations where I'm getting "floated" and getting bet into on the river with a mix of bluffs and made hands (the bad players are easy to pick off, the better ones aren't).

Do I need to bet more rivers UI? Am I missing something really basic here?

well, i think the texture of the board should have a big part to play on your decisions on the river and of course your reads.

Agreed. Generally you shouldnt be betting hands with showdown value. There are situations however where its correct to bet AK/AQ high for value

Not really talking about value-betting and reading the board, though they obviously have something to do with it.

I dont really get what you mean by its not about reading the board. Im more likely to call with AK UI on a 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] board than Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I never read the MHSH forum but took a look around today and found this. This sort of thing. I guess a lot of it's just going to be working out the math and figuring out how to balance river actions but was hoping it'd been discussed in more detail somewhere.
