I would learn to deal blackjack. Many more opportunities and more $$. Not sure what poker dealers are making but BJ dealers are 50k+ at "decent" places.

Dealing poker is a great career if your a people kind of person. The best thing about poker is that you keep your own tips. If you deal BJ then you have to split them with every dealer there. It gets tiring after awhile to be giving up your hard earned money to some slacker that's not pulling his weight on the toke side.

Call a local Monte Carlo Party company. Even money, they will give you a free couple hour lesson on how to deal blackjack. Do a few parties, see if this is something you would like to do, then enroll in dealing school.

This varies by location. At my joint everyone goes for their own, poker and bj.

Edit: However, the norm is that the pit splits and poker doesn't. Just wanted to say that it's not the case everywhere.

Does the fact that the BL pit keeps their own tips encourage collusion with players? Just a thought, not a rant or accusation.

Quadstriker, is this California-style blackjack where the house is not party to the wagers, or standard blackjack?

I'm not an expert on the subject of breaking laws, so I'm not sure. I suppose anything is possible, but you'd have to be really stupid to try it imo.
