Hanley is obviously <<< anyone defensively.

Fielding percentage and errors are not the reason why.

What is Hanley's defensive problem? Jeter like reflexes? Could he play CF? I don't see how moving him to 3rd would help things.

Demon,

Juan Pierre .293 BA
Prince Fielder .288 BA

Juan is a better hitter than Prince, right?

there are like 10 other ways to compare batters (and there are different kinds of batters), i dont know many other ways to compare fielders besides errors and fielding % (and there arent that many ways to play shortstop)

so ur analogy is terrible

There are numerous fielding metrics. Fielding percentage completely removes the most important skill a fielder could have - range.

How about % of total balls hit to your area that you convert into outs instead of % of the time you don't [censored] up? Would that be good?

I don't know what's worse - saying he can't find more than one fielding stat or that there are only 10 ways to compare hitters.

1) i said i responded quickly and fielding % is the quickest way to check fielding stats

2) saying that i believe there's only 10 ways to compare hitters shows your incomprehension becuase i was just throwing a number out there, which is pretty clear to any observant reader

3)i agree that (number of balls hit in area / balls fielded) is another very good measure of comparing fielders, but like i said, i responded quickly and just went to mlb.com to refute what the OP said about Hanley being a better fielder than Rollins

u guys are blowing what i said way out of proportion

4) saying rollins was clutch is not a level if you watched the 2nd half of the season

alright your incorrect (that's a fact) but it's not that big of a deal, just don't be so stubborn

I don't know how you can post in the sporting events thread and not pick up on all the other fielding metrics that are available... + - charts are copy and pasted in most threads where fielding is being debated

Not all of these charts are EXACT... but fielding percentage is probably the least telling stat in baseball... it is fairly meaningless

Now, jus don't be argumentitive, and just try and listen and learn....maybe even get some books if you wanna take it to the next level

fielding percentags are for annoying retards like skip bayless, the reason why I, and other people enjoy this forum is that we can get away from that crap and have logical (as much as possible) sports discussion
