Re: Making Infused Vodka
The recipes I've seen for brandied cherries and such sound more like the way you are preparing them. If anything, it seems to me that freezing the vodka would stop the infusion process, er, cold.

Re: Making Infused Vodka
This works good for bloody marys. The amounts are based on a 5th of vodka
8 fresh hot peppers (I have used serrano and jalapeno) 3 garlic cloves smashed 1 inch piece of ginger 4 inch piece of fresh horseradish 3 sprigs thyme tablespoon pepper corns I usually put the ginger and horseradish in food processer and give it a rough chop. Leave in freezer for week or more. Never made it past a week because I get thirsty by then. Have also used blueberries and raspberries with good results. |

Re: Making Infused Vodka
These were done, IMO, after 24 hours:
Granny Smith apple with rosehips and cinnamon Strawberry and mango Kiwi, starfruit and blood orange peel Garlic, basil and dried chipolte peppers Ginger with whole allspice, cloves and star anise These are still in progress: Blueberry mint -- took some of the mint out and added a bit of sugar Pear ginger with a bit of whole allspice -- added a bit more ginger, but will probably take it out today The garlic-basil-chipolte is very weird. Strong garlic up front and a very spicy finish. Not sure if I like it or not. Pair it with some homemade Mary mix though, and it could be killer. Will try that this weekend. The fruit ones are all good; strawberry-mango perhaps great. Drank each straight and also with a splash of tonic. A bit too much orange flavor in the kiwi-starfruit, I think I'll leave that bit out next time and go for just tropical flavors. KJS |

Getting a good savory one is a goal for sure. Did you cut the peppers or put them in whole? If cut, seeds removed or not? KJS |

Re: Making Infused Vodka
I just smashed them a little so the vodka would flow into them.

[ QUOTE ] I've made weed vodka out of old stems before, but thats about it [/ QUOTE ] Did you get high as you drank it? I've heard that THC can't be extracted in alcohol unless it's in somewhere around a %60 solution. I've also heard using everclear to extract it then using stuff to dilute it and for flavoring is awesome. Still planing on trying it...... [/ QUOTE ] Big time winner. Never tried it with stems though. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would have to imagine using a higher proof alcohol would get you better yields of THC, but I honestly have never tried it. Using 80 proof standard vodka worked really well for me. I imagine whatever is floating around is related to everclear giving higher yield of THC by weight, as vodka does contain water and THC is a hydrophobic chemical, so it's likely to be quite inefficient, but who the hell cares? They're stems. Just keep in mind that, since you are drinking vodka, you aren't going to be just "high", though it does indeed get you affected and is akin to eating pot brownies (or anything else where THC is ingested). Ingestion vs. inhalation is quite different. BTW, if anyone is trying to infuse vodka with anything (not just illicit drugs, you stoner bastards), I suggest trying out a soy vodka. I tried a brand called "3", spent $20 for a 750 mL bottle, and it was some of the smoothest tasting vodka I've ever had. I would buy this over Grey Goose anyday of the week now. |

Re: Making Infused Vodka
NT,
You get a more intense and integrated flavor with the infusion. It's hard to describe the difference, but I mean, OK, it's the difference between orange-flavored vodka and a screwdriver. Totally different, right? BTW, jalapeno infused vodka is great for making vodka martinis. |
