Americans at Ladbrokes
I am heading to London from Sun 1/22 to Thursday 1/26 and I would love to play some live poker at Ladbrokes. When I was there years ago, foreigners could not play unless they applied and waited 24 hours. Does anyone know if that is still the case? Also, can anyone tell me the casino's location? I can find plenty of information about their online casino on the Net but nothing about their B&M room.
Thanks, KJS |

Re: Americans at Ladbrokes
Erm, Ladbrokes is a bookmaker. They don't have a live card room. Are you getting confused with the Ladbrokes sponsored Poker Million?
All the public London cardrooms spreading poker can be found here on the Mob database with contact details. The two biggest card rooms in London are Grosvenor Victoria Casino and Gutshot. The 24 hour rule was a legal obligation for all casinos in the UK but was recently lifted (it applied to Brits too). If you turn up with your passport there will be no problems getting straight in, although most places have a dress code which you should check with them before going. |

Re: Americans at Ladbrokes
The Ladbrokes chain of betting offices (extremely small sports books) own/run the casinos located inside of Hilton UK hotels, however I do not know of a casino called 'Ladbrokes'.
As already stated the 24 hr wait has been lifted. |

Re: Americans at Ladbrokes
Thanks for the correction and the link. I guess I visited one of the other casinos listed on that site. I am glad to hear the 24 hour rule is gone.
Can you recommend any one of these over the others in terms of comfort, action, cost, etc.? KJS |

Re: Americans at Ladbrokes
I recomend Grosvenor Victoria, curiosuly not siutated in Vicotria, it is actually on Edgeware RD. Near Marble Arch.
They have IMO the nicest casino in London, and the largest poker room. |

Re: Americans at Ladbrokes
Comfort, cost: They all suck. You can go check out the Vic if you want, but if you've been to Vegas you'll be severely underwhelmed.
Action: The Gutshot almost certainly has the most action at any given time but the tournaments tend to be absurd shortstacked crapshoots, the rake in the cash games is astronomical, and the place has been overfilled and uncomfortable every time I've been there. I know you're a poker player, etc. but live poker isn't really on the list of things to do in London for me, and I can get to any of these places in 20 minutes. If you're only here for a short time, do other stuff. However, others obviously disagree, because the Gutshot is very popular. |
