I have decided to buy a Wii!

Now the question is.. what games should I get?

The 2 most obvious ones are Wii Sports and Mario Party.

Zelda and Metroid Prime 3. I heard that Mario Party wasn't all that great. If you want another party game, check out Rayman instead.

Madden if you like Maddens. Zelda for adventuring. RE4 for action. Metroid Prime 3 for both.

downloading the SNES game Super Metroid is a must have.

Zelda and Metroid are the no-brainers.
Rayman sucks IMO but that's just me.
Godfather: Blackhand Edition is really fun IMO if you're into GTA type action or into the Godfather series.
Mario Strikers Charged is a great party game if you're friends with people who are competent at video games (but requires a remote + nunchuck for each player).
Mario Party is an above average party game if you're friends with a lot of girls or non-gamers.
Wii Play is worth it ($50 includes extra remote) if you plan on getting an extra remote.

My wife and I like Mario Party a lot. However, if you're burned out on the previous iterations, it probably wouldn't be good for you. She hadn't ever played one before, and I hadn't played one since #2, and she doesn't play that many games in general, so it was great for us.

I agree with this assessment of Wii Play, but I disagree with everything else in this post.

Rayman is the best group game on the platform, and Mario Party is the worst game I've played for it.

Zelda reminds me of Shenmui (boring, I'm waiting to drive a forklift), Metroid is indeed the best console FPS ever (but it's still terrible and unplayable - I love FPS games but only with a keyboard and mouse apparently).

Strikers was OK.

Excite Truck is fun for a racing game, and I like it more than tony hawk, ssx, and need for speed (on the wii).

Super Paper Mario is really really slow to get into because of very long unskippable dialog scenes, but the game is neat. It's also extremely easy, so I don't think that it's worth buying (no replay value).

The surgery game is pretty neat, and I liked elebits, marble mania, and mercury meltdown revolution.

Oh, and I really liked Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat, and the Marvel Alliance game (basically gauntlet).
