Yeah, I live in NYC, and the only bears I've ever seen have been in zoos. You're right in that it's not really fear inspiring, but I'm sure even a bear of that size could, if angered, take out a human, or at least do significant damage to property if not stopped, which is what prompted my gun query.

I just returned from two weeks fishing and camping in the Fish Tale / Nye area. We saw a bear about that size coming back from Mistic Lake. It was a real treat to see a bear in the wild. Especially after we made it down the mountain without momma bear eating us for lunch.

That is an awesome picture. I wouldn't want to mess with one though. Have you had bigger bears come up to your house or yard?
