Default Re: Limit or NL on a limited live bankroll?

As others have said, with your very limited roll, odds are you will go broke.... HOWEVER, since you don't seem to be that worried about the risk, a loose NL game is going to be your best shot at getting a lucky start and making the most money.

Low stakes Limit Poker is too hard to beat. Takes a lot of luck since you will be playing 5-7 way pots a lot of the time. In a loose NL game where you buy-in for the Max (I don't agree with the short-buy theory in this situation), you should be able to survive long enough playing super tight aggressive to get someone (or multiple someones in these games) to pay you off in a big way.

You're still going to need a good run of cards to come out ahead, but if you're willing to play fearlessly and possibly lose your whole roll, this is the way to go IMO.

5-7-way limit pots maker low-limit games immensely juicy and profitable, if you know how to play them right. (I believe some guy named Miller wrote something about this a while back. Some other guys named Sklansky and Malmuth helped him, I hear tell. )

That said, limit is an inherently higher-variance game than NL.

As others have said, the slow, low-variance way to win is to play disciplined short-stack NL. (I say "disciplined" because I'm always seeing people who get antsy because they haven't played a hand in two orbits - gasp! - so they decide to start calling PFRs with 22 and 97s hoping to flop something, then the flop comes all medium cards, so even though they're unimproved they decide to "make a move"...)

I'm still playing online, and profitably, too, but I want to take advantage of the incredibly soft live games (where I can make much more). The reason I took money out in the first place was when I changed sites, so I don't plan on taking another hit to my online br (and I also figured I'm getting it back with FT's $600 bonus)

I recognize trying this isn't good br management, but I'm accepting that and gonna try anyway. There's something about playing live that's more fun than online, I suppose.

I think there is more scope to limit your variance in NL than there is in limit, especially when you're lucky enough to find a passive table. Take a shot at NL and hope for the best.

And you're almost 21 and you've got your mind made up and pretty much not going to listen to any advice, so go for it and good luck.

I've recently turned 21 and want to start taking advantage of the juicy games at two nearby casinos. However, being a college student, I'm not sure how best to start playing on a very limited bankroll.

I've cashed out $500 from my online br to get me started, and I can probably add $100 a month from my summer job (still in college, so pretty much broke).

I'm an online no-limit player, I greatly prefer it to limit, [b] and I know I can win more quicker playing nl

Nice to see that college edumocation is working. Less poker, more school.
