Re: Quitin time for Doyle
I just saw the clip on YouTube and apparently Doyle thinks Gold is a really good player. Vs. anyone else except the Billion guy, I can see him folding it. So I'm going to agree with the OP on this one. Of course, I could be dead wrong in thinking Gold is one of the weaker players at the table in that video.

responding to nvg post with strategy is usually a horrible idea but its pretty obvious that the only problem with what doyle did was that he forgot that jamie doesnt really understand the actual strength of his hand in this situation [/ QUOTE ] Ditto Gold sucks Thread over |

Re: Quitin time for Doyle
This hand looked odd to me at first. I mean, I'm playing to hit the flush so I'm not folding it when I get it. But the thing about that, is that I pretty much never, in this world of capped NL, play true deep stack poker.
So Doyle's put in about 35k so far, he's facing a $100k call and somewhere between 200K and 365k on the river. And he reads his opponent as strong (i.e. at the very least holding a flush) and he only has the third nut flush. Remember that capped NL is a relatively new phenomenon. Doyle's played uncapped NL as his primary game for the bulk of his career. He's undoubtedly made a fortune against players willing to stack off in deep games with the third nuts. But he's not pot committed here, and its not a bad play to abandon his 35k rather than put 500K at risk against a man he knows also has a flush. Abd that's deep stack poker for you. There are more times you have to abandon the hand that you think may be best, than there are in short(er) stack poker. |
