As of September 12th, the Mets had 17 games left to play. Also, the Phillies lost 10 straight with 12 games remaining. Seven of those games were in Philly as well. Even if the Mets don't make the playoffs, I still think the 1964 Phillies would suck more.

Obviously you should NOT be rooting for the Padres. Essentially there are 3 spots for 4 teams (Dbacks, Mets, Phillies, Padres) Any time the other 3 teams lose our chances increase.

of course, i realize that, and i am fearful of their pitching...but my point is that if the padres lose, that boosts the phillies chances of getting in...so i guess a goal is to see the phillies out...dunno, gah, it's so bad i even think like this
