Our team's lineup for 2007?

1. Pierre 8
2. Theriot 4
3. Lee 3
4. Ramirez 5
5. Jones 9
6. Barrett 2
7. Murton 7
8. Izturis 6

Doesn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of Cub opponents. This isn't a good organization, and barring sweeping changes isn't going to be one for a long time. I'm no fan of Baker, but to say this season's debacle was his doing is giving him far too much credit.

I hope so ... anything would be an improvement for that team, such a disappointment Dusty was for the (f)ailing Cubs. Not like he had control over the injuries, but he could have done a better job with his situation.

Good luck Dusty ..

I've been waiting so long for this. Thank you.

You're next, Hendry.

It needs to be either Girardi or Fredi Gonzalez. Somebody that is looking to PROVE something, not some guy resting on his laurels. Also they really need to get to bottom of the whole Marlins fiasco with Girardi and find out if he's really capable of being a manager.

Agreed; Baker is terrible but the Cubs have a long way to go. Even longer than your post implied, because Pierre will probably be gone and Aramis almost certainly will be gone (he has an out clause in his contract, and he will get huge offers).

Note: Pierre is an overrated player, but Pie, or whomever replaces him, probably still won't be as good next season (Pie will probably be better by 08).

Thank God. When the cubs started to "turn it around" about a month ago I was horrified that they'd keep him around for another year. The cubs definitely still have issues, but they need a no-nonsense manager willing to push the players, not an apologist like Dusty. Dusty's comfort zone is managing a team like the Yankees where his main role is to placate the egos of superstars, which is why he did well in the first year with the cubs when the team was rolling along. Once things go wrong and he actually needs to improve a bad situation, he's worthless.
