Default Offical Pride Final Conflict results thread (Spoilers)

The play by play thread on sherdog is lagging but I can report the following

-Josh Barnett def. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria by split decision
-Mirko CroCop def. Wanderlei Silva by KO (high kick) and left him looking like this:

Updates as they become avaliable

EDIT: Evangelista "cyborg" Santos def. Yosuke Nishijima by ref stoppage in the first fight of the night

EDIT2: Aleksander Emilianenko def. Sergei Kharitonov by TKO (knees). Last update for me so just follow the thread or update it yourself if you please

Also here is the PBP thread on Sherdog

:-( I can't believe I forgot about this. %$#%$# I hate Barnett, he took out A.E., Hunt and now Nogueria? I hope Cro Cop kills him. If not, you know who Barnett will get next.......

Here's a video of the fight, total domination by Cro Cop. Wandy should stick to fighting middleweights, this could be one of those, "he was never the same" losses.

It didn't have anything to do with weight class. His style is just just ill-suited to fighting Cro Cop. He's a wild striker, while Cro Cop is a disciplined counter-puncher. No one in Pride can beat him standing up, but you knew that Silva would try. Cro Cop wins this 95% of the time. Doesn't mean that Silva can't beat heavyweights (and Silva actually outweighed Cro Cop).

I was very impressed with the fights this evening. After the last few UFC's have been lackluster I'm happy this Pride lived up to all my expectations.

Responding to myself, but I think that Silva has a better shot at beating Nog and Fedor than Cro Cop does. Silva is a good striker, but he thinks he's better than he is, which is his downfall against an actual world class striker. But his wild style would do well against Fedor, who has been felled (though never KOd) by strikers before.

As for Nog, Silva presumably has better sub defense than Cro Cop.

I actually thought that was a bad decision. But it depends on your method of scoring. Cro Cop hit Hunt with more shots. And hit Hunt with harder shots. But because Hunt has an iron chin, Hunt didn't appear to be hurt. Cro Cop has a weaker chin, so Hunt's punch in the third round stunned Cro Cop, causing it to look like Cro Cop was running away from Hunt.

IOW, under an amateur boxing scoring system, Cro Cop wins easily.

Under a round scoring system (a la UFC), Cro Cop wins, because he won the first two rounds.

But under the Pride scoring system (where the entire fight is judged as a whole), Hunt could be seen as winning. (I disagree, but I'm biased, because I'm a Cro Cop fan.)

I like both Hunt and Cro-Cop, and could also see that decision going either way. Good god Hunt took some brutal kicks to the head in that match and didn't look fazed AT ALL. That was his #1 fight, imo. He really hasn't been as good since.
