Guideline suggestions for your letter

1) Do not email your letter, smail it. A stack of hand-signed letters on one’s desk tends to be taken more seriously and will have a better impact than a full inbox. This is huge- snail mail it.

2) Do not mention professional aspects of the game. What do you think about that guy that has had recent success employing a martingale betting system with roulette… just another sucker destined to go broke? Well, most non-gambling people think poker is much the same, so discussing professional benefits of the game will only make you look like an addicted degenerate. Instead keep it recreational, you know, relaxing from time to time once the kids are in bed- keep it benign.

3) Try to avoid mentioning negative aspects of internet gambling. They already know what the pitfalls are of internet gambling, so why ruin a positive letter by bringing embezzlement (or such) to the forefront of their mind… keep it positive.

4) The land of the free? Well, make sure you mention how you feel your civil liberties are being infringed upon and how this country was founded on freedom blah, blah, blah.

Good post. I disagree with item 1 though. I really do think that, with all the anthrax stuff, physical mail is REALLY slowed down.

All the members of congress have web sites that have a link to a email form that you can fill out. This way, the format is known (to them) and they don't worry about things like viruses, etc.

The bottom line is that all of us need to contact them! Each one of them! Send them mail (physical or e-mail), but also call them at their local office in your area, and their DC office. Long distance is cheap!

If one of you Senators is up for re-election this year - really hammer him. Even if it seems to be a slam-dunk for re-election.
