Default settle a dispute: prop bet involved

if person A says that something will happen by "8p sharp" and a wager is placed with person B who "takes the over," does person A win if the event occurs by 8:00:59 or does he lose at 8:00:01?

My vote would be hi wins at 8:00:59. I take 8 sharp to mean 8:00 on a clock.

The over/under is 8:00:00. If it happens at 8:00:59 or 8:00:01, person B wins.

why do you think "8p sharp" implies 8:00:00? why stop there? why doesn't it imply 8:00:00:00, with person A losing at 8:00:00:01?

I'm sure that's what he meant, but very few clocks go beyond seconds.

It clearly means the point in time that is 8:00. There is only one point in time that would be agreed upon as 8:00, and it is not 8:00:59. Physicists please do not reply to this post.
