Re: Vegas noob: El Cortez
[ QUOTE ]
Sorry to Jack the thread slightly but me and my G/f are going to vegas next year (when she turns 21) and are looking at prices for flights and hotels (we are in the UK), and were hoping to get somewhere cheap that wasn't downtown or off strip and the only reasonable place seems to be the sahara within our budget. Whats the walk from their like to the main part of the strip? And is it worth paying the extra money (although quite considerable for us to be closer? Or alternativley to pay a bit less and go downtown? I also have looked at a load of websites and posts here so have some idea just looking for additional info Cheers [/ QUOTE ] Man, if you're taking the girl to Vegas and especially coming all the way from the UK, get a room at a decent place on The Strip. |

Re: Vegas noob: El Cortez
If you want to do it cheap and plan on the strip almost all of the time then Gold Coast is a reasonable option.
Even as a cheapo I recommend renting a car for $30/day or something. You will save over cab-fare. And taking shuttles/busses is just a pain. Flamingo or Imp-Palace or something should be worth checking into as well. Seriously, I don't see staying all the way out at El Cortez to save a little money when you will have to spend a significant amount of time or money just to get to the strip from there. |

Re: Vegas noob: El Cortez
the location alone of the imp-pal would make it worth paying more than double the el-c.
I think you'll end up saving in the long-run. |

Re: Vegas noob: El Cortez
I did that walk one time.
It's not very realistic to do it regularly imo. It was so annoying I didn't even do it again going back. Just got a cab. Quite the hike just to get to Bellagio or any other nearby strip location. And you have to walk across the bridge over the damn interstate so you come away smelling like exhaust. But if you don't want to rent a car, you can take the shuttle from the Rio (next door to Gold Coast) to Harrah's on the strip. And that would have to be quicker than trying to take the bus from downtown to the strip I would think. I still very much recommend getting the cheapest rental you can though. Vegas on a budget is very do-able I think. But I just don't believe you should try to trim too much for really inferior location. Much better to be somewhat nearby and either be able to walk right out your door to the strip or have a relatively quick cab/shuttle/car ride away. Saves lot of time. And also could save a bit of money too. |

Vegas on a budget is very do-able I think. [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely! And part of the fun is finding ways to have fun at the lowest cost. TAANSTAFL, tho. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. You'll have to give up something to get something. But, for most, time is the one thing they have more of than money. $5 gets you a pass on the Deuce for 24 hours. Walking is good for you. You're not going to get around to every casino, anyway. Why would you need to? Elsie has improved, although how much is enough? Downtown is a different world, so its worth a trip by itself. And for most people, the view is the same from one slot to the next. There are a lot of guys with too much money, and lots of us who love a bargain. Fortunately, Vegas has room for both. |

Re: Vegas noob: El Cortez
Can I ask a silly question? Why go to Vegas if you can only afford $25 a night? I don't see how that is any fun at all.....
