Default How much money is there in franchisee ownership?

I recently had a conversation with a friend whose father is a franchisee owner for a well-known fast-food restaurant. He was telling me about how since his father bought the business, his parents have a lot of time open to travel, etc., and that they have enough money to pretty much do whatever they want right now.

I didn't want to ask him directly, but I'm curious, does anyone know how much one can make by owning say, a Burger King? What sort of resources are required to get involved in this sort of business, and it is really not all that demanding? Anyone with any experience in or knowledge of the business?

I've seriously considered opening a Jackson Hewitt franchise. Initial investment is pretty low and it seems much less complicated to run than something like fast food.

There's an older thread on franchises. Search but set the latest post option to like 6 months and it should show up.

I know the guys who got an exclusive for all the Krispy Kremes in Houston. They were making tons and tons of money, in the millions, for a few years.

Now KK tanked and I think they've closed all but 1 or 2 of them.

So 'it depends'.

Franchise ownership is a good business. Much easier and safer than starting a business from scratch. Downside is it costs more money.
