tuq,

[censored] you for recommending Infinite Jest in a previous thread and me actually going and getting it. I plan on eventually finishing for no other reason than I can then recommend it and people will be in awe of me being so smart as to like such a book.

each page is like a mental workout.

Noah,

How far along are you?

I actually came away from that book feeling pretty dumb because I didn't understand most of the big words. But it was a helluva story.

A mid day 15 minute nap has shown to improve productivity for the rest of the day.

But how do you wake back up?

Not at all. I sleep pretty soundly, so when I fall asleep I'm not waking up for a while.

It would require getting into the habit of falling asleep instantly and waking up easily 15 minutes later. Most people I know struggle terribly to fall asleep, so I doubt they could ever manage a 15 minute nap.

I would imagine that too. I'd ask those people why? Sure, I'd guess a small percentage love their jobs and don't want to leave them for a second

[/ QUOTE ]

I would guess about 0%. I "love my job", so to speak, but I sure as hell can stop doing it every now and then.

[ QUOTE ]
but the majority don't. To impress the boss?

[/ QUOTE ]

Unless you work in a bank of cubicles with your boss, it won't impress your boss because he/she won't even know. Also, if your boss takes lunch break they won't know whether you're there or not.

[ QUOTE ]
To get ahead/stay ahead/keep from falling behind? Possible, but a poor way to live

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you're closer to mark here. For the record, I think a poorer way to live is always being behind schedule, eventually having to stay late or come in on weekends to make deadlines.

For me, I usually take a short break to eat at my desk. The sooner I go back to work, the sooner I can go home or post on 2+2 for the whole afternoon.

Exactly. When I'm able to pull it off I try to grab a 15 minute afternoon nap. If I happen to be home (right around the corner from here) and have the time I'll try for 45 minutes, but that's pretty greedy. How the crowd who says they have trouble falling asleep gets through the mid-afternoon lulls I have no idea.

A better question for those with jobs who say they take naps is: how exactly are they doing this? Hiding somewhere? An office they can shut and lock and be out of sight?
