Default Music at the table

I wanted everyone's opinion on this... during a small tourney this morning I was using my I-pod as usual and some older fellow told me it was rude to have it at the table. I explained it wasn't against the rules and that I've played better since I bought it. He shook his head and stared at the dealer with a skowl on his face.

Is he just a cranky old man that should be ignored, or is there anyone else who has a problem with music players at the table?

Player is a nit.

If there are no rules against ipod/music devices, have fun. Just pay attention to the action and know when it's your turn and so on.

For me, it depends entirely on the person and the volume. As long as you are still paying attention to the game and not holding it up because you can't hear, then I don't care. There's nothing more annoying than constantly having to tell a player that there was a raise because he couldn't hear the dealer over his music. Also, if I can hear your music, then it's way too loud and probably annoying people besides me. So unless you fall into one of those categories (which I doubt since you bothered to ask the question), you can reasonably assume he was just a cranky old man.

Now that I am a member of the headphone club, I say screw that old fart.

I keep my volume low enough that it isn't any louder than sitting next to Dean.

The other day I had a player tell me that it was disrespecting the game to listen to music. He went on to tell me that he intentionally tries to take advantage of players wearing headphones, by sitting next to dealer and announcing "all-in" very quietly and then moving a small stack of chips to induce a call from a player who did not hear his "all-in"

I'm amazed that a guy like this thinks listening to music is disrespecting the game, but trying to cheat other players is fine.

I always pause mine when I am in a hand for this exact reason (intentional or not) I don't want to miss any vocalized information when I am in the hand.
